Delicious Southern cornbread dressing with turkey, giblets, and cornbread - a crowd-pleasing Thanksgiving side.
Ingredients:
  • 8 cups crumbled cornbread
  • 4 cups cubed stale bread
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 1.5 cups chopped celery
  • 2 cups turkey broth, or as needed
  • 1.5 cups chopped cooked turkey
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 0.25 cup chopped, cooked turkey giblets
  • 4 large hard-cooked eggs, chopped
  • 4 tablespoons self-rising flour
  • 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh sage, or to taste
  • 2 large bay leaves
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 3 large eggs
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease two 9x13-inch baking dishes.
  • Mix cornbread and stale bread cubes together in a large bowl. Let sit.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt butter until sizzling. Add onions and celery, sauté until translucent, about 5-10 minutes.
  • Pour the flavorful onion mixture onto the cornbread blend. Combine with turkey broth, chopped turkey, soup, giblets, hard-cooked eggs, and flour. Ensure all the cornbread is moistened. Stir in parsley, sage, bay leaves, salt, and pepper. Gently fold in the beaten eggs until the mixture is slightly runny. Divide evenly into the prepared pans.
  • Bake until deliciously golden and perfectly cooked, approximately 1 to 1 1/4 hours in the preheated oven.
