Flavorful Italian tomato sauce with sausage and ground chuck, simmered for hours with herbs and spices for a rich pasta topping.
Ingredients:
  • 2 (28 ounce) cans plum tomato puree
  • 0.5 pound hot Italian sausage, sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 0.5 pound mild Italian sausage, sliced into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 pounds ground chuck
  • salt to taste
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, diced
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 (12 ounce) can tomato paste
  • 0.25 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley, or to taste
Instructions:
  • In a large pot, gently warm the tomato puree over medium-low heat and let it simmer while you get the rest of the ingredients ready.
  • In a heated skillet, brown hot and mild Italian sausage along with ground chuck for 10 to 15 minutes until fully cooked. Season with salt and pepper, then transfer the cooked meat to the simmering tomato puree using a slotted spoon.
  • In the same skillet where you browned the meat, cook and stir the onion and garlic until the onions are lightly browned, about 5 to 8 minutes. Add this flavorful onion mixture to the meat.
  • Combine water and tomato paste in the skillet with the onion mixture and simmer gently for 15 minutes until slightly thickened. Add this to the sauce in the pot. Sprinkle Parmesan cheese, basil, oregano, and parsley over the sauce and stir well. Simmer on low heat for 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
