"Delicious Middle Eastern spiced flatbread, perfect for dipping in golden olive oil. Great as an appetizer or side dish."
Ingredients:
  • 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
  • 0.75 cup warm water - 110 degrees F (43 degrees C)
  • 0.25 cup olive oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.25 cup olive oil, divided
  • 0.25 cup za'atar
  • 0.75 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions:
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine yeast and warm water, and let it sit until a creamy layer of foam forms, approximately 10 minutes. Add 1/4 cup of olive oil, then slowly incorporate flour and 1/2 teaspoon of kosher salt.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 10 to 12 minutes until smooth and slightly sticky. Place the dough in an oiled bowl, ensuring it's coated with oil all around. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the dough overnight until it doubles in size.
  • Generously spread 2 tablespoons of olive oil on a 9x13-inch baking sheet. Place the dough in the center and shape it into a thick disk. Cover with plastic wrap and allow to double in size, approximately 1 1/2 hours.
  • Gently press and stretch the dough to the edges of the oiled baking sheet using your palms and fingers, ensuring it is even in thickness. Make small indentations in the dough with your fingertips, then brush with the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Mix za'atar and 3/4 teaspoon of kosher salt in a small bowl, then evenly sprinkle over the flatbread. Allow the dough to rest uncovered for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • Simply bake flatbread in the preheated oven until golden brown, which should take 15 to 20 minutes.
