Margaret's Hot Mulled Wine

Cozy mulled red wine, ideal for chilly, rainy days.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 cups boiling water
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 lemon
  • 8 whole cloves
  • 1 (3 inch) cinnamon stick
  • 1 (1.5 liter) bottle red wine
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add sugar and stir until dissolved. Mix in lemon quarter, cloves, and cinnamon, and boil for 10 minutes. Strain the mixture and return it to the saucepan.
  • Combine red wine with the water-sugar mixture and heat until steaming, but not boiling, for approximately 5 minutes.
