Classic almond sugar cookies: Cut into fun shapes, sprinkle with colored sugar for a festive touch.
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.5 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar for decoration
Instructions:
  • Cream together smooth butter and confectioners' sugar in a large bowl. Beat in the egg and mix in vanilla and almond extract. Fold in flour, baking soda, and cream of tartar until well combined. Chill covered for at least two hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Divide the dough in half and roll each piece out to 3/16 inch thickness on a floured surface. Use cookie cutters to create desired shapes and place cookies 1 1/2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Sprinkle with plain or colored granulated sugar before baking.
  • Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8 minutes until lightly browned. Let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
