Make delicious Greek orange walnut cookies at home, bursting with cinnamon flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 230.00 gm vegetable oil
  • 112.50 gm white sugar
  • 2 oranges, juiced
  • 1/2 lemon, juiced
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 20.00 ml ouzo liqueur
  • 450.00 gm self-raising flour
  • 1.88 gm ground cinnamon
  • 152.95 gm walnuts, finely chopped
  • 225.00 gm white sugar
  • 178.75 gm honey
  • 125.00 gm boiling water
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 4 cloves
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 180°C, and prepare 2 flat baking trays by lining them with baking paper.
  • With an electric mixer, whip together oil, sugar, 1/2 cup orange juice, and 2 tablespoons lemon juice on high for 10 minutes until thick and creamy. Introduce egg yolk and ouzo into the mix and beat for 5 more minutes. Sift in flour and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, then gently fold to achieve a light, doughy texture.
  • Shape tablespoons of the mixture into ovals using your hands and place them on prepared trays. Bake for 25 minutes or until they are firm to the touch. Let them cool on the trays.
  • In a saucepan over medium-high heat, mix ingredients together and stir for 5 minutes until the sugar dissolves. Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat to medium-low and simmer for 4 minutes until the syrup slightly thickens.
  • With a slotted spoon, dunk each cooled biscuit into hot syrup for about 30 seconds, ensuring they are well coated by turning them over frequently. Place biscuits back on trays. Mix walnuts with the rest of the ground cinnamon and sprinkle over the biscuits. Let them cool before serving.
