Traditional Southern sweet potato pie, a crowd-pleasing dessert using grandma's simple recipe. Perfect for parties and potlucks.
Ingredients:
  • 2 medium sweet potatoes, scrubbed
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon, or to taste
  • 1 pinch ground nutmeg, or to taste
  • 1 pinch ground allspice, or to taste
  • 1 pinch ground cloves, or to taste
  • 2 (9 inch) pie crusts
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) for a perfect bake.
  • Boil sweet potatoes in a pot of water until soft, for 20 to 30 minutes. Drain and peel off skins.
  • Mash the sweet potatoes in a bowl until smooth; transfer 1 cup to a large bowl, setting aside the rest for later.
  • Combine sugar, condensed milk, butter, eggs, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves with sweet potatoes in a large bowl. Mix until thoroughly combined, then evenly distribute batter between pie crusts.
  • Bake until firm in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes.
