Award-winning New England apple pie recipe that shines with fall's finest apples.
Ingredients:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • 0.75 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 fluid ounces milk
  • 6 cups apples - peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (230°C).
  • Combine white flour, whole wheat flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl. Add oil and milk at once, then mix with a fork until a dough ball forms. Divide the dough into 2 pieces, then roll out each between two sheets of waxed paper. Line a 9-inch pie pan with one half of the dough.
  • Combine fresh, crisp apples with zesty lemon juice, sweet sugar, and warm cinnamon in a spacious bowl. Stir together thoroughly and transfer into a pie crust, then dot with butter. Cover with another crust, seal, crimp the edges, and slash the top to release steam.
  • Begin by baking in the preheated oven for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the apples are tender.
