Mom's nutty white gravy with bacon roux: 5 ingredients only.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup bacon fat
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 4 cups whole milk, at room temperature, or more if needed
Instructions:
  • Prepare all your ingredients.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt bacon fat. Stir in flour, salt, and pepper. Cook and whisk continuously until the roux thickens and turns light golden brown, about 10 minutes.
  • Whisk in the 4 cups of milk slowly into the flour mixture until it simmers over medium heat.
  • Heat and stir until the gravy is warmed and velvety, 3 to 5 minutes, adding additional milk if needed for desired consistency.
  • Serve piping hot on a fluffy biscuit.
