Seared venison steaks roasted in tangy homemade BBQ sauce - perfect for game season!
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 1 small onion, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 (4 ounce) venison steaks
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in ketchup, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and yellow mustard. Let the mixture warm through completely.
  • Preheat a separate skillet over medium-high heat. Season the steaks with salt and black pepper, then sear in the skillet until golden brown on each side, about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Place the seared steaks in a 9x13-inch baking dish and pour the flavorful sauce from the skillet over them.
  • Roast in the oven until the meat is fully cooked and no longer pink in the center, approximately 1 hour.
  • Move the steaks onto a platter, letting any extra sauce drip off. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and water until smooth. Blend this into the hot sauce left in the baking dish until it thickens; drizzle over the steaks before serving.
