Ingredients:
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 0.75 cup hot water
  • 0.75 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 0.25 cup shortening
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, mix together the molasses, hot water, and baking soda. Add the beaten egg and whisk until well combined. Pour the mixture into the deep dish pie shell.

  • Generously dust the pie filling with the desired topping.
  • Place the pie on a baking sheet in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and bake for another 30 minutes.
