Golden baked farina cake drizzled with sweet orange blossom syrup, a sticky Lebanese treat.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon tahini (sesame seed paste)
  • 2 cups dry farina cereal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 16 blanched almond halves
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon orange flower water
Instructions:
  • Prepare the 9x13-inch glass baking dish by lining it with aluminum foil and generously buttering the foil. Evenly spread a thin layer of tahini over the bottom of the prepared pan.
  • Combine farina cereal, 1 1/2 cups of sugar, and baking powder in a bowl. Gently blend in the yogurt and 1 tablespoon of softened butter by hand until the dough is smooth. Spread the dough into the baking dish and press the surface smooth. Cover the dish with foil and let it rest at room temperature for 2 hours. Slice the dough into 16 squares with a sharp knife and delicately press an almond half into the top of each square.
  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
  • Bake in the oven until the dessert is set with a light golden-brown top, approximately 30 minutes.
  • Once the dessert is in the oven, start preparing the syrup. Combine 2 cups of sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture comes to a boil. Add lemon juice and boil for 5 minutes. Then, stir in butter and orange flower water until well combined. Once the dessert is ready, pour the hot syrup over it immediately. Let it cool for 1 to 2 hours to allow the syrup to absorb before serving.
