1 hour 35 minutes
Spiced homemade buns with caraway, sage, and nutmeg.
Ingredients:
  • 1 package regular active or fast-acting dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (105°F to 115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/4 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
Instructions:
  • Prepare the muffin tin by greasing the cups with shortening or cooking spray. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water, then mix in sugar, caraway seed, salt, sage, nutmeg, shortening, egg, and 1 cup of flour using an electric mixer on high speed until smooth.
  • Stir in the remaining flour with a spoon until smooth. Use a spatula to scrape the batter from the sides of the bowl. Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Beat the batter by stirring about 25 strokes with a spoon. Fill each muffin cup halfway with the batter. Cover and let the batter rise for 20 to 30 minutes or until it almost reaches the tops of the cups.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F and bake for around 15 minutes until beautifully golden. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
