Savor a classic Japanese favorite, Oyako Donburi, a comforting dish featuring tender chicken and silky eggs in a savory broth.
Ingredients:
1tablespoonvegetable oil
0.75 poundskinless, boneless chicken breast halves - cut into strips
0.5onion, thinly sliced
1cupchicken broth
6dried shiitake mushrooms, soaked until soft, then sliced into strips
1carrot, julienned
2tablespoons white sugar
4tablespoons soy sauce
0.5 cupchoppedgreen onions
5eggs, beaten
Instructions:
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, sizzle chicken strips and onion in oil until chicken is fully cooked, around 5 to 7 minutes. Remove excess liquid before moving on.
Pour in the chicken broth and simmer for 2 minutes. Add mushrooms and carrot, simmer briefly, then mix in sugar, soy sauce, and salt. Let simmer for 3 more minutes. Gently stir in half of the green onions. Pour beaten eggs over the mixture and simmer for approximately 10 minutes until eggs are fully cooked. Serve on top of Japanese sticky rice.
