Enhance beans with flavorful smoked turkey leg, serve over rice or with cornbread. Delicious smoky twist to a classic dish.
Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds dried pinto beans
  • 8 cups water, or more if needed
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 smoked turkey leg
  • 0.33333334326744 cup olive oil
Instructions:
  • Rinse and inspect the beans before transferring them to a large bowl. Cover the beans with cold water and let them soak for 6 to 8 hours.
  • After draining and rinsing the beans, transfer them to a slow cooker. Add 8 cups of water and blend in onion, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and bay leaves. Gently place the turkey leg in the cooker, cover, and set to cook on Low for 6 hours. Add olive oil and more water later if needed. Simmer until the beans are very tender, about 2 more hours.
