Introducing the magical patterned cake made effortlessly using a special pan!
Ingredients:
  • 1 box Betty Crocker™ Super Moist™ Yellow Cake Mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 package (3 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 box (4-serving size) Jell-O™ strawberry- or orange-flavored gelatin
  • 1 tub (12 oz) Betty Crocker™ Whipped Fluffy White Frosting
  • Yellow food color
  • Betty Crocker™ Easy Flow white decorating icing (from 6.4-oz can), if desired
  • Candy flowers, if desired
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and lightly flour the bottoms and sides of three 9-inch round pans for the checkerboard cake. Place the divider ring in one of the pans as per the manufacturer's directions.
  • In a medium bowl, use an electric mixer on low speed for 1 minute to combine cake mix, milk, cream cheese, vanilla, and eggs, scraping the bowl constantly. Continue beating for 2 more minutes. Divide the batter in half, then mix gelatin into one half of the batter.
  • Divide the batter evenly among the pans and use the divider ring according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Bake for 23-29 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool for 10 minutes. Gently loosen the sides of each cake from the pan using a metal spatula; then flip them onto a cooling rack. Allow the cakes to cool completely for about 1 hour.
  • Color frosting with yellow food coloring until it reaches a deep yellow hue. Layer the cake with a thin layer of frosting between layers, alternating the outside colors. Place the cake on a serving plate, then frost the sides and top. Decorate with icing and garnish with candy flowers. Store loosely covered.
