Greek pasta bake with savory beef, rich tomato sauce, and gooey melted cheese - a comforting family favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 36.80 gm of oil
  • 1 large brown onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 750g veal mince or beef mince
  • 800g can chopped tomatoes
  • 140g tub tomato paste
  • 250.00 gm white wine
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1.25 gm ground cinnamon
  • 500g packet dried macaroni pasta
  • 180g butter
  • 250.00 ml plain flour
  • 100ml cream
  • 901.25 gm milk
  • 2 eggs lightly beaten
  • 375.00 ml tasty cheese, grated
Instructions:
  • 1. Preheat oven to 180°C. Grease two 26cm x 18cm lasagne dishes. In a large, heavy-based saucepan over medium heat, sauté onions and garlic until tender. Add the mince and brown while breaking it up with a wooden spoon, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the tomatoes along with their juice, tomato paste, wine, basil, oregano, and cinnamon to the mixture. Season to your liking. Bring everything to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for 45 minutes until it thickens. Let it cool before serving.
  • Boil pasta in seasoned water until al dente. Drain and transfer back to the pot. Mix in the meat sauce.
  • In a saucepan over high heat, melt butter. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat. Gradually pour in cream and milk while stirring. Return to heat and bring to a boil while stirring. Lower heat and simmer for 5 minutes. Let it cool for 10 minutes, then mix in eggs and cheese.
  • Divide the meat and pasta mixture among the prepared dishes. Drizzle the cheese sauce over the top and make sure it covers everything. Bake in the oven for 50 to 60 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
