Bake delicious pita-style bread at home with this simple recipe.
Ingredients:
  • 1.125 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons active dry yeast
Instructions:
  • Add all the ingredients to the bread pan of your bread machine. Select the Dough setting and press start. The machine will beep when the dough has risen adequately.
  • 1. Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and shape it into a 12-inch rope. Use a sharp knife to cut the dough into 8 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball. Roll out each ball into a 6 to 7 inch circle using a rolling pin. Place the circles on a lightly floured countertop, cover with a towel, and allow pitas to rise for about 30 minutes until slightly puffy.
  • Preheat your oven to 500 degrees F (260 degrees C). Place 2 or 3 pitas on a wire cake rack and bake for 4 to 5 minutes until puffed and lightly browned. Remove from the oven and keep pitas covered in a sealed brown paper bag or under a damp kitchen towel until softened. Cut in half or split the top edge for half or whole pitas. Store in the refrigerator for several days or in the freezer for 1 to 2 months.
