Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls

Indulge in a decadent fusion of red velvet cake and cozy cinnamon rolls.
Ingredients:
  • 0.5 cup warm water
  • 1 (.25 ounce) envelope active dry yeast
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) package red velvet cake mix
  • 0.75 cup warm milk
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon oil, or as needed
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, mix together warm water and yeast until combined. Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes to bloom until yeast is activated and foam forms on top.
  • Combine the flour, cake mix, warm milk, and salt. Mix on low with the dough hook until the dough forms and pulls away from the sides, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Prepare a generously oiled large bowl. Shape the dough into a ball and transfer it into the bowl, ensuring all sides are coated with oil. Cover with plastic wrap and a towel, then set the bowl over a pan of steaming hot water. Allow the dough to rise until it nearly doubles in size, approximately 1 hour.
  • Combine butter, brown sugar, white sugar, and cinnamon in a medium bowl, stirring until fully mixed.
  • Grease a large baking pan with baking spray.
  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and shape it into a generous rectangle. Next, generously spread the filling over the dough and carefully roll it into a lengthy log. Slice the log into 12 pieces and arrange them on the designated pan. Let the rolls rise until they have doubled in size, approximately 30 to 45 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) to create the perfect cooking environment.
  • Bake rolls in the oven until beautifully golden, for 20-25 minutes.
  • Once the rolls are in the oven, mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, butter, milk, and vanilla in a bowl. Use an electric mixer to beat until smooth and pourable. Transfer the icing to a plastic zip-top bag.
  • Take the cinnamon rolls out of the oven and generously drizzle the icing over the warm rolls straight from the zip-top bag. Serve immediately for a delicious treat.
