Fruity apple and rhubarb pie with Chinese-five-spiced crumble.
Ingredients:
1 (9 inch) refrigeratedunbaked pie crust
4apples, peeled and thinly sliced
2 cups 1/2-inch-thick slices trimmedrhubarb
0.75 cupwhite sugar
3tablespoons all-purpose flour
1teaspoonall-purpose flour
2teaspoons Chinese five-spice powder
0.75 cupunsiftedall-purpose flour
0.5 cupwhite sugar
0.5 cupquick-cooking oats
0.25 teaspoonsalt
1teaspoonChinese five-spice powder
0.5 cupbutter
Instructions:
Position the oven rack on the lowest level. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Line a 9-inch pie plate with pie crust.
In a large bowl, mix together apples and rhubarb. Toss with sugar, 3 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon of flour, and Chinese five-spice. Pour the filling over the crust.
In a large bowl, mix unsifted flour, sugar, oats, salt, and five-spice. Add butter and crumble into a topping. Sprinkle the crumb topping over the pie.
Bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Allow it to cool completely before serving.
