Try my mouthwatering Oklahoma diner-style onion burgers with savory portobello mushrooms, pan-fried to perfection.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, very thinly sliced
  • 0.5 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1 pound 85% lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Hamburger Seasoning
  • 0.5 cup sliced portobello mushrooms
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 rolls rolls, hamburger, white, enriched, plain
Instructions:
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter with oil until sizzling. Saute onion and garlic until tender and fragrant, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Divide the ground meat into 4 portions and shape into delectable patties, generously seasoning with salt and your favorite mix of seasonings.
  • Preheat a large skillet or flat-top over medium-high heat. Add patties to the hot skillet and press them with a spatula or bacon press. Press down firmly for 30 seconds, top each patty with cooked onion, and cook for 2 minutes. Flip burgers, ensuring to scrape off any browned bits from the skillet.
  • Press the patties gently to infuse the meat with the savory onions.
  • Add sliced mushrooms to the same skillet with the onion and cook until softened, approximately 5 minutes.
  • Season the patties with a pinch of salt and a sprinkle of pepper, then add a slice of cheese on top of each one. Cook until the burgers reach your preferred level of doneness, about 2 to 4 minutes longer. Finish by topping each patty with the remaining onions and mushrooms, then serve on buns.
