Indulge in Bavarian Oma's hearty dumplings with meat and gravy or creamy mushroom sauce for a comforting meal. Serve with a touch of gravy for a satisfying dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (1 pound) loaf stale French bread, cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 2 eggs
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 0.5 cup dry bread crumbs
Instructions:
  • In a large bowl, add the bread cubes. Heat the milk until it's bubbling at the edges, then pour it over the bread cubes and stir briefly to coat. Allow to soak for 15 minutes.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter then sauté onions until tender. Add parsley, mix well, and remove from heat. Combine with bread, eggs, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Use your hands to blend ingredients until smooth and sticky.
  • Fill a large pot with water, add a pinch of salt, and bring it to a rolling boil. Take a small amount of the dumpling mixture and shape it into a ball the size of an orange or tangerine. Drop the test dumpling gently into the boiling water. If it breaks apart, add bread crumbs to the remaining batter until the consistency is right.
  • Shape the remaining dough into sizable dumplings, then gently lower them into the boiling water. Let them simmer for 20 minutes before transferring to a serving plate using a large slotted spoon. Enjoy their soft, spongy, and delightful texture!
