Tangy Seville orangeade for a refreshing treat.
Ingredients:
  • 10-12 seville oranges, washed and scrubbed clean
  • 1 cup sugar
  • The juice from one large lemon
  • 5 cups cold, filtered water
Instructions:
  • Prepare the oranges by halving them lengthwise and slicing them thinly into 1/8-inch slices.
  • In a large flat-bottomed non-reactive bowl, combine the slices and sugar. Mash the orange slices with a potato masher until most of the segments are juiced.
  • Combine water and lemon juice: Pour the specified amount of water into the bowl with the orange slices, gently stir to mix, ensuring the sugar is completely dissolved, then add the lemon juice.
  • Strain the orange mixture through a large fine mesh strainer set over a bowl, pressing to extract all the juice. Transfer to a serving pitcher.
