Impress guests with a fun and delicious hamburger cake at your next kid's party!
Ingredients:
  • 2 x 340g packets golden butter cake mix
  • 370g packet moist chocolate cake mix
  • Brown gel food colouring
  • Yellow gel food colouring
  • Green gel food colouring
  • 10 red cloud lollies
  • Pure icing sugar, for dusting
  • 125g yellow ready-to-roll coloured icing (see Notes)
  • 20.00 ml Rice Bubbles
  • 250g unsalted butter, softened
  • 450.00 gm icing sugar mixture
  • 4.40 gm vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan-forced, then generously grease three 20cm round cake pans with a 7cm depth. Line the bases and sides with baking paper for easy removal later.
  • Prepare the golden butter cake mixes according to the instructions on the packet. Divide the batter evenly between 2 pans. Bake for 45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean when inserted into the center of the cakes. Let them stand for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool.
  • Prepare moist chocolate cake mix according to the instructions on the packet. Pour the batter into the remaining prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to stand for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool.
  • Prepare the Buttercream icing: In a bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter until pale, about 8 to 10 minutes. Gradually add the sugar while beating to combine, then mix in the vanilla.
  • Tint 2/3 of the icing with brown and yellow food colourings for a light brown shade, resembling the bun. Use green food colouring to tint the remaining icing green.
  • Level the top of a golden butter cake using a large serrated knife, then place it on a plate. Spread the top and sides with light brown icing to create the bun base. Using a piping bag fitted with a 1.5cm-fluted nozzle, pipe swirls over the top edge of the cake to mimic lettuce leaves. Finally, top the cake with cloud lollies to imitate tomato slices. Enjoy!
  • Trim the top of the chocolate cake using a large serrated knife. Then, round the top and bottom edges with a small serrated knife to create a patty shape before placing it on top of the cloud lollipops.
  • Sprinkle icing sugar on a flat surface. Roll yellow fondant into a 2mm-thick disc and cut it into a 20cm square. Gently lay the fondant over the chocolate cake to create a cheese-like layer.
  • Trim the top of the butter cake to create a dome shape. Spread icing over the top and sides of the cake. Gently place it over the fondant to make the burger bun top. Sprinkle with rice bubbles and serve.
