Satisfying potato and hamburger casserole, topped with creamy cheese sauce and mushrooms. Easy to assemble and bake.
Ingredients:
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1 (6 ounce) can mushrooms, drained
  • 2 tablespoons butter, diced
Instructions:
  • Heat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Submerge potato slices in water in a medium bowl.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, sauté ground beef, onion, tomato sauce, and Worcestershire sauce in hot oil. Season with salt and pepper. Cook until beef is browned and onions are tender, approximately 10 minutes.
  • While you wait, prepare the cheese sauce. Melt 1/4 cup of butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour until combined. Slowly pour in the milk, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened, around 5 minutes. Lower the heat and stir in Cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper to your liking.
  • Arrange half of the potato slices in a medium baking dish. Add the ground beef mixture on top, then layer with mushrooms. Pour over the cheese sauce mixture. Finish with the rest of the potato slices and dot with 2 tablespoons of butter.
  • Bake in the oven until golden brown, for 30-40 minutes.
