Slow-cooked sloppy joe sauce with tangy tomatoes, brown sugar, and apple cider vinegar piled on toasted buns.
Ingredients:
  • 1.5 pounds beef flank steak
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning (such as Montreal Steak Seasoning®)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 small red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 6 hamburger buns, split and toasted
Instructions:
  • Season both sides of the beef flank steak generously with steak seasoning. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat until it shimmers, then sear the steak on both sides until golden brown, about 5 minutes per side. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  • Combine brown sugar, onion, red bell pepper, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, tomato sauce, and tomato paste in a slow cooker until the brown sugar dissolves. Add flank steak into the sauce ensuring it is submerged. Cook on High for 4 hours or on Low for 8 hours.
  • Shred the meat using 2 forks or chop it, then mix it back into the sauce. Toast the buns and assemble the delicious sloppied steak sandwiches.
