Total Time:
Savory beef stew with vegetables, thyme, bay leaf, brown sugar, simmered in beef stock and beer.
Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup margarine
  • 2 pounds cubed beef stew meat
  • 0.25 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 (14 ounce) can beef broth
  • 1 cup beer
  • 1 onion, sliced into thin rings
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 (15 ounce) can mixed vegetables, drained
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect cooking temperature.
  • In a Dutch oven over medium-high heat, melt butter or margarine and brown the beef in two batches, stirring often. Set aside the cooked beef and then stir in the flour.
  • Combine broth, beer, onion, garlic, brown sugar, thyme, and bay leaf in a large pot and bring to a boil. Add the beef back into the pot, cover, and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Add a medley of colorful mixed vegetables to the dish. Cover and bake for 1 hour, or until the beef is tender. Finish by discarding the bay leaf and serve the delicious meal.
