Spicy English dessert slices with boozy buttery sauce. Yum!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups soft bread crumbs, (5 slices bread)
  • 1/2 cup shortening, melted
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 cup Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped candied citron
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar or granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
Instructions:
  • Grease a 4-cup heatproof mold generously. In a large bowl, pour milk over bread crumbs, then mix in shortening and molasses until combined. Stir in the remaining pudding ingredients until well blended. Pour the mixture into the mold and cover with foil.
  • 1. Set the mold on the rack in a Dutch oven. Fill the Dutch oven with boiling water up to the level of the rack. Cover and bring to a boil. Steam over low heat for about 3 hours or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Add boiling water quickly if needed during steaming.
  • Combine all sauce ingredients in a 1 1/2-quart saucepan and simmer over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Gently remove pudding from the mold, cut into slices, and serve warm with sauce.
