Easy-to-make Italian apple cake with delicate vanilla flavor.
Ingredients:
  • 2 tablespoons unseasoned bread crumbs, or as needed
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean, split and scraped
  • 2 eggs
  • 1.125 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tablespoon milk, or as needed
  • 2 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced thin
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C), then grease a pie plate and coat it with breadcrumbs.
  • In a bowl, mix together melted butter, 1/2 cup sugar, and vanilla bean seeds. Then add eggs and mix well. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt before adding it to the butter mixture. If the batter is too thick, stir in some milk.
  • Spread the batter evenly in the pie plate. Layer apple slices generously on top. Sprinkle with cubed butter and a 1/4 cup of sugar for sweetness.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes, then loosen edges with a table knife and carefully invert onto a serving plate or cooling rack to cool completely.
