Tunisian Harissa

Spice up your dishes with homemade Tunisian hot pepper paste, harissa. Add a fiery kick to any meal!
Ingredients:
  • 11 ounces dried red chile peppers
  • 0.75 cup chopped garlic
  • 2 cups caraway seed
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground coriander seed
  • 2 teaspoons salt
Instructions:
  • Prepare the chile peppers by removing the stems and seeds, then soak them in cold water for 20 minutes and drain. Combine the peppers, garlic, caraway, coriander, and salt in a mortar and pound with a pestle until smooth. Transfer the harissa to a jar and top with a little oil to keep it fresh. Refrigerate for storage.
