Savory turnip green soup with garlicky kielbasa, great northern beans, and flavorful seasonings, perfect with cornbread.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound kielbasa sausage, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 5 cups chicken broth
  • 2 (27 ounce) cans turnip greens, drained
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans great northern beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 package vegetable soup mix (such as Knorr's®)
  • 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco®)
  • 1 pinch Creole seasoning (such as Tony Chachere's®), or to taste
Instructions:
  • In a large saucepan over medium heat, sizzle kielbasa and onion in oil until golden brown and onion turns translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Transfer to a plate.
  • Combine broth, turnip greens, beans, soup mix, hot pepper sauce, garlic powder, Creole seasoning, salt, and pepper in a saucepan; bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Place the kielbasa and onion mixture back in the saucepan. Simmer over medium-low heat for 2 hours.
