Make crispy vegan fried tofu by draining, baking, and frying for a perfect meaty texture. Easy and quick to make.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package extra firm tofu, drained
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika
  • ground thyme
  • 0.25 teaspoon seasoned salt (such as LAWRY'S®)
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and give your baking sheet a gentle oil massage.
  • Dry the tofu with a paper towel, slice it in half lengthwise, then cut each half into 1/4-inch pieces, yielding about 14 pieces in total. Place the tofu between paper towels to drain for approximately 20 minutes.
  • Sprinkle tofu with salt and pepper, then allow it to rest for 10 minutes.
  • Combine cornstarch, paprika, thyme, and seasoned salt for a flavorful cornstarch seasoning blend.
  • Pat the tofu dry to enhance its texture. Evenly sprinkle cornstarch seasoning over it and place it on a baking sheet.
  • Place the tofu in the preheated oven and bake until golden brown, around 7 minutes. Flip it over and bake for an additional 3 minutes until the top is nicely darkened.
  • In a skillet over medium-high heat, fry tofu in oil until golden-brown on each side, approximately 2 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.
