Kids will love this fun T-Rex cake!
Ingredients:
  • 4 x 340g packets golden buttercake
  • 8 eggs
  • 240g butter, softened
  • 772.50 gm milk
  • 1 1/2 quantities butter cream icing (see notes)
  • Yellow food colouring
  • Red food colouring
  • 20 apple-flavoured sour straps
  • 8cm licorice strap
  • 1 strawberry-flavoured sour strap
  • 3 licorice allsorts (orange and white)
  • 1 round white licorice allsort mini
  • 20.00 ml orange sprinkles
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 180C/160C fan-forced. Grease two 21cm x 30cm baking pans that are 5cm deep, then line the bases and sides with baking paper, leaving a 2cm overhang on all sides.
  • Prepare the packet cakes as instructed on the package. Divide the batter evenly into the pans. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a skewer comes out clean when inserted in the center. Then, cool the cakes on wire racks until completely cooled.
  • Create a vibrant orange hue by mixing in yellow and red food coloring into the butter cream icing.
  • Level the cake tops using a serrated knife. Place the cakes cut-side down next to each other on a bench lined with baking paper. Position the paper pattern sheet over the cakes and use a serrated knife to cut out the dinosaur shape from the cake. Carefully transfer the dinosaur cut-out to a board.
  • Frost the cake completely. Cut 23 strips from apple sour strips following the pattern as a guide. Arrange the strips on the cake as shown in the picture. Slice licorice straps into thin strips. Use 2 strips to outline the mouth. Cut the remaining licorice into nine 1cm pieces and position them as claws. Cut a tongue shape from strawberry sour strap measuring 6.5cm, place it in the mouth. Cut licorice allsorts in half diagonally for teeth, and position them in the mouth. Use a round licorice allsort for the eye. Sprinkle sprinkles over the cake and serve.
