Savor a delectable beer bread with cheesy goodness, perfect on its own, in sandwiches, or toasted.
Ingredients:
1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle premium lager
2tablespoons margarine
2tablespoons milk
4cups all-purpose flour
2teaspoons salt
2tablespoons sugar
4teaspoons yeast
1teaspoongroundblack pepper
1teaspoonground cayenne pepper
0.5 teaspoononion powder
0.5 teaspoondried marjoram
0.5 teaspoondried basil
8ounces reduced-fat extra-sharp Cheddar cheese
2tablespoons margarine, melted
Instructions:
Prepare two 9x5-inch loaf pans by greasing them.
Heat beer in a saucepan over medium heat. Add milk and 2 tablespoons of margarine, stirring until melted. Transfer mixture to a bread machine pan. Add flour to the pan and create a well in the center. Sprinkle salt on one side of the flour mound. In the well, add sugar and yeast. Top with pepper, onion, garlic, and herbs. Start the dough cycle.
Slice the cheese into tiny, pea-sized crumbles to avoid clumping. Gradually add the cheese crumbles once the dough forms a sticky ball.
Ensure the cheese fully incorporates into the dough until it remains slightly soft and sticky. If it becomes too dry, simply add a splash of milk.
After the dough cycle finishes, gently press down on the dough, then divide it equally in half. Grease two loaf pans, place each dough half into a pan, and let it rise for 45 to 60 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
Once the dough has doubled in size, bake until the loaves are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped, approximately 1 hour. Transfer to a cooling rack, brush with melted margarine, and allow to cool thoroughly before slicing.
