Spicy French toast from New Mexico with butter and powdered sugar, a family favorite.
Ingredients:
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 15 slices whole wheat bread
  • 1 cup butter, divided
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
Instructions:
  • Combine eggs with a blend of warm spices in a medium bowl.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Dip bread slices into egg, ensuring each side is coated but not fully soaked.
  • In a buttered skillet, fry a few slices at a time until golden brown on both sides. Add more butter as needed and fry the rest of the slices. Melt any leftover butter in the microwave in 15-second intervals. Plate the toast when done, drizzle with melted butter, and dust with confectioners' sugar.
