Slow-simmered savory meat sauce perfect for pasta or versatile cooking.
Ingredients:
1onion, finely chopped
1carrot, finely chopped
1stalkcelery, finely chopped
0.5 poundground beef
0.5 cupred wine
0.5 cupmilk
1pinchground nutmeg
1 (28 ounce) cancrushed tomatoes
1tablespoonwhite sugar
1teaspoondried oregano
salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
In a large saucepan, sauté onion, carrot, celery, and garlic in olive oil over medium-low heat until soft and slightly browned, around 8 minutes. Add ground beef and cook until well browned, breaking it apart as it cooks, about 10 minutes. Pour in red wine and simmer until almost absorbed, 10-15 minutes. Stir in milk and nutmeg, and cook until almost absorbed, about 10 minutes.
Combine crushed tomatoes, sugar, and oregano in a pot and bring to a gentle simmer over low heat. Cook uncovered for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to your taste.
