Buttermilk cake with orange zest, raisins, and nuts, topped with orange liqueur buttercream.
Ingredients:
  • 2.75 cups cake flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.75 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 cup shortening
  • 1.5 cups buttermilk
  • 1 cup golden raisins, chopped
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 1.5 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 recipe Williamsburg Butter Frosting
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare your chosen pan(s) by greasing and flouring them.
  • Combine cake flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. Add butter, shortening, buttermilk, eggs, raisins, nuts, orange zest, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on high speed for 3 minutes. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake the 9x13 inch pan for 45 to 50 minutes or the layers for 30 to 35 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool and frost with Williamsburg Butter Frosting.
