Quick homemade marinara sauce packed with fresh herbs, mushrooms, and onions - perfect over pasta. Ready in under an hour.
Ingredients:
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 sweet onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (8 ounce) package fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, torn
  • 2 tablespoons oregano
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried sage
  • 0.5 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, infuse olive oil with the aromatic flavors of onion and garlic for about 2 minutes. Introduce mushrooms, red bell pepper, and parsley, cooking until the mushrooms start to soften, which should take about 2 minutes. Sprinkle in oregano, sugar, basil, rosemary, sage, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper, stirring continuously for another 2 minutes to blend the flavors perfectly.
  • Combine the tomato sauce with the seasoned onion-mushroom mixture and let it simmer over low heat for 30 minutes to meld the flavors together.
  • Blend half of the sauce in a blender until smooth, then stir it back into the saucepan with the rest of the sauce and mix well.
