Ingredients:
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 0.33333334326744 cup cream
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 4 large apples - peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces
Instructions:
  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and lightly butter an 8-inch square baking dish.
  • Prepare the cake mixture by sifting flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a mixing bowl. Incorporate the butter using 2 knives or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • In a small bowl, combine the cream and egg by whisking them together. Add the mixture to the flour and gently combine until a soft dough forms. Press the dough into the prepared baking dish, then layer the apples neatly on top in slightly overlapping rows.
  • Prepare the streusel topping by combining brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl. Incorporate butter until mixture becomes crumbly, then sprinkle over apples.
  • Bake in the oven until the apples are soft and the topping is golden brown, approximately 25 minutes.
