Fried apple pies - crispy golden crust filled with sweet apple, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Perfect for kids and everyone!
Ingredients:
  • 2 apples - peeled, cored and chopped
  • 0.33333334326744 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup vegetable shortening
  • 0.5 cup water, or as needed
  • 1 cup vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 teaspoons confectioners' sugar
Instructions:
  • In a saucepan, combine apples, sugar, and cinnamon and gently simmer over low heat. Stir frequently and cook until apples are soft, about 10 minutes. Use a fork to mash the apples into a chunky applesauce. Set aside the apple filling.
  • Combine flour and salt in a bowl, then use a pastry cutter to blend in the shortening until coarse crumbs form. Mix in water until dough is moistened, then knead briefly until it holds together. Transfer dough to a floured surface, shape into a round, and roll it out to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut out 8 rounds using a 4-inch diameter cookie cutter.
  • Spoon a generous amount of apple filling in the center of a dough round. Moisten the edge of the crust with cold water using your finger. Fold the dough over the filling, then seal and crimp the edges with a fork to create a half-moon-shaped pie. Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling.
  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Carefully place 2 or 3 pies into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2 to 3 minutes per side. Transfer the pies to paper towels to drain. Sprinkle confectioners' sugar over each pie and let them cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
