Indulge in creamy baked apple tarts for the ultimate winter dessert.
Ingredients:
  • Melted butter, to grease
  • 125ml (1/2 cup) maple syrup
  • 80g butter
  • 4 small (about 530g) green apples, cored, each cut into 12 wedges
  • 125g mascarpone
  • 150ml double cream
  • Ground nutmeg, to serve
  • 150g (1 cup) plain flour
  • 100g chilled butter, chopped
  • 6.00 gm icing sugar
  • 15.00 gm water
Instructions:
  • In a food processor, blend together the flour, butter, and icing sugar until the mixture looks like fine breadcrumbs. Add water and process until the dough forms. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.
  • Preheat your oven to 180ºC. Brush four 11cm fluted tart tins with removable bases with melted butter. Divide the pastry into 4 equal portions. Roll out each portion on a floured surface and line each tin with pastry, trimming any excess. Place the tins on a baking tray and bake for 15 minutes or until golden. Let them cool on a wire rack before serving.
  • In a large frying pan over medium heat, combine the maple syrup and butter. Bring to a boil while stirring. Add the apple slices in a single layer and cook for 5 minutes on each side until tender. Allow the apples to cool completely before serving.
  • In a bowl, delicately mix mascarpone and cream. Spoon the mascarpone mixture onto tarts and top with apple slices and syrup. Finish by sprinkling nutmeg on top.
