Irresistible caramel apple whiskey dessert.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup quick-cooking or old-fashioned oats
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup butter, cut into pieces
  • 8 Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey-flavored whiskey
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated or ground nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 1/4 cups whipping cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 tablespoons honey-flavored whiskey
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • Vanilla ice cream
  • Fresh thyme sprigs
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and gently coat a 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Combine flour, oats, 3/4 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, and salt in a food processor. Pulse until mixed. Add butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Combine all filling ingredients in a large bowl, then pour into a baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the apple mixture. Bake for 1 hour.
  • In a 1-quart saucepan, heat 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar and water over medium-high heat until bubbles form and the mixture simmers. Avoid stirring, gently swirl the saucepan occasionally while heating the sugar. In approximately 10 minutes, the sugar will begin to caramelize. Once the mixture turns into a rich, dark amber color, lower the heat. Carefully whisk in the whipping cream until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  • Take the saucepan off the heat and transfer the sauce to a heatproof jar or bowl. Mix in vanilla, 3 tablespoons of whiskey, and 2 tablespoons of orange juice. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve (the sauce will thicken as it cools).
  • Enjoy apple crisp alongside a scoop of creamy ice cream, topped with a generous drizzle of caramel sauce and elegant thyme sprigs for a beautiful presentation.
