Indulge in delicious fall apple doughnuts dusted with powdered sugar for a nostalgic treat. Addictively good!
Ingredients:
  • 2 quarts oil for frying
  • 2.25 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 0.5 cup white sugar
  • 0.25 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions:
  • Preheat oil in a deep-fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt onto waxed paper.
  • In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat sugar, brown sugar, and eggs until fluffy. Mix in 2 tablespoons of oil. Gradually mix in flour mixture and milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients, until well combined. Stir in applesauce and vanilla.
  • Drop level tablespoons of batter, 3 or 4 at a time, into the hot oil. Avoid overcrowding to prevent oil overflow. Fry for 3 minutes until golden, turning once with tongs. Drain on paper towels using tongs. Allow to cool completely before enjoying.
