Festive candy corn-inspired cookies with orange, vanilla, and chocolate stripes.
Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 8 drops red food color
  • 8 drops yellow food color
  • 2 oz. semisweet chocolate, melted, cooled
Instructions:
  • Prepare the loaf pan by lining it with waxed paper and letting the paper extend over the sides. In a large bowl, combine the sugar and butter, beating until light and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla and egg until well blended. Then add the flour and baking powder, mixing well.
  • In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup of dough with orange peel and both food colors, stirring gently to mix. Knead the dough on a work surface until the color is evenly distributed. Shape the dough into a 7x3 1/2-inch rectangle and gently press it into a waxed paper-lined pan.
  • Take half of the dough and press it into a 7x3 1/2-inch rectangle, then place it over the orange dough in the pan, pressing gently to the edge. Stir the chocolate into the remaining dough, knead on a work surface until the color is uniform, shape into a 7x3 1/2-inch rectangle, and place it over the vanilla dough in the pan. Press gently to the edge of the pan, cover with waxed paper, and refrigerate for 3 hours or until firm.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Gently lift the dough from the pan using waxed paper. Cut the dough into 1/4-inch-thick slices, then place them 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
  • Bake at 375°F for 7 to 10 minutes or until cookies are set with lightly golden edges. Allow to cool for 1 minute then remove from cookie sheets.
