Prepare a delicious make-ahead egg bake for an effortless brunch.
Ingredients:
  • 7 cups lightly packed 1-inch cubes French bread (8 oz)
  • 2 cups chopped roma (plum) tomatoes (6 medium)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 6 slices bacon
Instructions:
  • Prepare a 13x9-inch glass baking dish by generously spraying it with cooking spray. Evenly spread the bread in the baking dish. Gently mix in 1 1/2 cups of cheese with the bread. Top with tomatoes.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, mustard, basil, and salt until well combined. Pour the mixture over the bread mixture. Cover tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, but no longer than 24 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F and bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. In a 10-inch skillet, cook bacon over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes, turning occasionally until crispy. Drain on a paper towel.
  • Crush bacon into bits. Scatter bacon and the remaining 1/2 cup cheese on top of the strata. Allow to sit for 10 minutes before serving.
