Baked Alaska: Cake, ice cream, fluffy caramelized meringue - a showstopping nostalgic dessert!
Ingredients:
  • 2 quarts vanilla ice cream, softened, or as needed
  • 8 large egg whites
  • 0.125 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 0.125 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 8-inch round prepared white cake layer
Instructions:
  • Prepare all the necessary ingredients.
  • 1. Prepare an 8-inch round mixing bowl by lining the bottom and sides with plastic wrap. Fill the bowl with softened ice cream, smoothing out the top, and cover with more plastic wrap. Freeze for at least 8 hours or overnight until firm.
  • Whisk together egg whites, sugar, cream of tartar, and salt until they form stiff peaks in a mixing bowl.
  • Place the cake in the center of a parchment-lined baking sheet. Remove the ice cream from the freezer, discard the plastic wrap, and invert the ice cream onto the cake.
  • Spread the fluffy meringue over the cake and ice cream, creating beautiful swirls if desired. Freeze for 2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to a toasty 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  • Bake cake on the bottom oven shelf until meringue is golden brown, for 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Slice the dish and savor it!
