Indulge in zesty lemon cream cheese bars with a walnut twist - a delightful take on classic cheesecake.
Ingredients:
  • 0.33333334326744 cup shortening
  • 0.33333334326744 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup chopped walnuts
  • 6.5 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 0.25 cup white sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and generously grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
  • Cream together the shortening and brown sugar in a large bowl. Slowly mix in the flour and walnuts until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  • Set aside one cup of the crust mixture. Press the remaining mixture onto the bottom of the baking pan and bake for 15 minutes.
  • In a big bowl, cream together the cream cheese and sugar until smooth. Mix in the egg, milk, lemon juice, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  • Spread the delicious filling over the warm crust, then generously sprinkle the top with the remaining crust mixture. Bake for an additional 25-28 minutes until golden brown. Allow it to cool on wire racks before cutting into delightful squares.
