Baked Ziti with Sausage

Savory baked ziti with bubbling cheese, hearty sausage, and rich spaghetti sauce, delivering comforting flavors.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (16 ounce) package dry ziti pasta
  • 1 pound mild Italian sausage
  • 1 large yellow onion, minced
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1.5 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce, divided
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Italian cheese blend
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
Instructions:
  • Preheat your oven to a toasty 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and generously grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • 1. Boil a pot of lightly salted water until it's bubbling vigorously over high heat. Add ziti pasta and bring back to a boil. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 8 minutes until al dente. Drain thoroughly.
  • Cook the sausage in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • Combine ricotta, onion, egg, garlic, and oregano in a large bowl, mixing until fully blended. Add pasta, sausage, salt, pepper, and half of the jar of spaghetti sauce, stirring until everything is thoroughly combined.
  • Spread a third of the jar of spaghetti sauce on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Add half of the pasta mixture, half of the remaining sauce, and half of the shredded cheese. Repeat with the rest of the pasta, sauce, and cheese. Sprinkle basil on top, then tightly cover the dish with foil.
  • Bake in the oven until heated through, approximately 20 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
