Healthy baked ziti with turkey sausage, reduced-fat sour cream, and extra veggies for a lighter twist on a classic dish.
Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 1 bunch fresh spinach, or more to taste
  • 0.75 cup reduced-fat sour cream
  • 1 pound Italian turkey sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 (26 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
  • 1 head broccoli, cut into florets
  • 6 ounces smoked fresh mozzarella cheese, diced
  • 0.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) for the perfect baking temperature.
  • Boil a large pot of salted water. Cook ziti for 8 minutes until al dente, then drain. Mix pasta with spinach and sour cream in a bowl.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté sausage with onion, carrots, and garlic until onion is translucent and sausage is cooked through (about 7 minutes). Stir in spaghetti sauce and broccoli, then simmer until heated through (about 15 minutes).
  • Spread half of the ziti mixture in the baking dish, followed by half of the fresh mozzarella, sauce, remaining ziti mixture, remaining fresh mozzarella, and shredded mozzarella. Cover with foil before baking.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until the cheeses are melted, for about 20 minutes. Then, uncover and bake until the top is lightly browned, for an additional 10 minutes.
