Simmer condensed milk for hours to create caramelized toffee base for banoffee pie.
Ingredients:
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk, or more to taste
  • 1 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crust
  • 3 bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
Instructions:
  • Submerge unopened can of condensed milk in a large pot of water. Bring to a boil, then simmer with lid on for 3 hours to create toffee, checking and adding water as needed to keep can submerged.
  • Once the contents are finished simmering, carefully remove them from the pot and let them cool until safe to touch. Quicken the cooling process by rinsing with cold running water for 10 minutes.
  • Gently open and stir the toffee until smooth. Spread it evenly over the prepared graham pie crust. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour to set.
  • Arrange the sliced bananas over the toffee. Whisk cream in a large bowl until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and keep whisking until fluffy. Spread the whipped cream over the bananas.
